Hair is worn with a natural root resulting in this look being low maintenance. The balayage style of colouring is soft and blended, which creates a natural lived in look. The mid-sections to ends are lightened, giving a graduated, dimensional colour. A face frame or money piece can be added for further dimension. A balayage will always result in a warmer blonde or warm tones due to the products and techniques used.

The word balayage is the French for sweep. As the name suggests the colourist will apply their lightener with either a brush or their hands, painting and sweeping onto the mid-sections down to the ends. The top of the mid-sections are blended with colour either by painting shapes, typically a V Y or W shape with a brush or using their hands to sweep motion upwards, known as freehand. This artistry results in a seamless, effortless blend from the top of the mid-section to the natural root. Clay or freehand bleach is used in the balayage service which is left to develop in the open air, without using foil, this gives a result of a warmer blonde or tone. Clay and freehand bleach is formulated to be painted or applied with hands, it will not run onto the remaining hair as it has a thicker consistency and will harden in the open atmosphere. The lightener is applied by eye, like an artist painting a canvas which results in a seamless, dimensional colour blend.

Included in both our balayage and balayage refresh services is the patented active ingredient of Olaplex which works on the hair internally to seek out and repair broken disulphide bonds caused by chemical damage. Chemical services are safeguarded when Olaplex is added to them. When visiting us for your balayage service we will use the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner in your service. All of the products in the Olaplex line are sulphite-free, paraben-free, phthalate free, colour-safe and vegan. We recommend continuing your Olaplex journey with products from our Olaplex shop.

Your colour will be styled to show your lived in look, using a choice of Aveda Olaplex and Davines styling products.

Your low maintenance colour will grow out effortlessly, however a visit within six months from your previous balayage service at Melanie Giles is required to refresh the top of the mid-section and touch up an existing face frame or money piece. We recommend continuing your Olaplex journey using at home hair care with Olaplex shampoo, conditioner and treatments.
